Frequently Asked Questions for Vehicle Registration
1. What is the process to register for a decal to haul waste?
First establish the type of decal that you need: A-901 licensed, Self-Generator, Public Entity, Hazardous Waste. Once you have determined the decal type needed, complete the appropriate application and return to our office for processing.
2. Where should the decals be placed?
Decals must be displayed on the DRIVER SIDE of the vehicle as indicated in the diagram here so it will be visible to the operator of the waste facility.
3. Who and how do you notify the Department regarding changes to a company registation information?
A-901 transporters are required to report any changes regarding their company to the Division of Law, A-901 Unit, the CPCN Unit, and to the Vehicle Registration Unit. To report changes to the Vehicle Registration Unit complete the Amendment to Waste Transporter Information.
Self-Generator transporters are required to report changes to the Vehicle Registration. To report changes to the Vehicle Registration Unit complete the Amendment to Waste Transporter Information.
4.What is the process for adding new vehicles to an existing fleet?
To register a new vehicle, complete the Add-On form and e-mail the completed form to the LRU@dep.nj.gov. You will then receive both a notification from the Department that the request has been completed and an invoice for payment. The decals will be issued after payment is processed.
5. What is the process for deleting a vehicle?
To delete a vehicle currently registered with the Department complete a modification form and select the option "delete vehicle/deactivate decal" and email the completed form to LRU@dep.nj.gov. Remove decals from equipment and return decal (all pieces) to Bureau of Licensing and Registration, P.O. Box 420, MC 09-01 Trenton, NJ 08625-0420. The vehicle will remain on Fleet until decals are returned to the Department.
6. Can a company register for decals using temporary registration and or insurance documents?
Decals are not issued to vehicles with temporary registration and/or temporary insurance documents.
7. What is the process to request new decals if decals were damaged?
To request replacement decals for decals that were damaged complete a modification form and select replacement type "Both Cab Card, Decal" and email the completed form to LRU@dep.nj.gov. Remove decals from equipment and return decal (all pieces) to Bureau of Licensing & Registration, P.O. Box 420, MC 09-01 Trenton, NJ 08625.
** Replacement decals will not be issued until both returned decals and payment for replacement decals have been received.
8. What documents are required if drivers and or equipment is leased?
Transporters that intend to lease drivers and or equipment must file a lease agreement and lease certification when registering with the Vehicle Registration Unit.
9. When filling out the leasing agreement who is the lessor and who is the lessee?
The lessor is the company or individual who owns the equipment and the lessee is the person who is renting or leasing the equipment.

11. When is the Transporter Vehicle Registration Period?
The solid and hazardous waste transporters vehicle registration period is a biennial (2-year) period. This biennial period runs from July 1st through June 30th; which means waste transporters renew their vehicle registrations every TWO years.
